DEFSTAND PC is proud to support the NATO APPROVED COURSE “DRAFTING, PRODUCTION and MAINTENANCE OF NATO STANDARDS” being held twice per year at NATO MARITIME INTERDICTION OPERATIONS TRAINING CENTRE (NMIOTC) premises in Crete, Greece.
The first iteration for 2025 was conducted on 16-20 June 2025 with the participation of thirty-seven (37) trainees from sixteen (16) NATO Members and Partners Nations.
DEFSTAND PC Associate Col DEU ARMY (ret) Dieter Schmaglowski led and orchestrated the overall Course Curriculum, while DEFSTAND PC CEO Captain Hellenic Navy (ret) Nikolaos Myriounis delivered training on the NATO Standardization Process, the Implementation of NATO Standards, Case Studies for NATO Standards Custodians, the integration of Standardization into the NATO Defence Planning Process and the Use of Civil Standards by NATO.

SCOPE OF THE COURSE
The course provides comprehensive knowledge to facilitate understanding of the procedures for development, production and maintenance of NATO standardization documents, including doctrines. It specifically focuses on the basic principles for drafting operational and materiel standards and covers multiple practical examples with thorough contextual explanation.

TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience is, first and foremost, candidates or already nominated custodians of NATO standards. Additionally, the course is also addressed to national representatives in NATO standardization bodies (Tasking Authorities/ Delegated Tasking Authorities/Working Groups), standards/custodial writing teams and national standardization personnel. Tasking Authorities staff and NATO bodies involved in the development of NATO standards are also invited to participate.

TRAINING STRATEGY
Small Group Training Activities (i.e. syndicate work, case studies, etc.) culminating in practical Task Assessments (syndicate work presentations) to formally assess candidates’ performance.
